Four generations
The Stellpflug family has been raising cattle just outside of Guernsey, Wyoming for going on four generations. Stellpflug Cattle Company was initially established by Frank and Rebecca Stellpflug in 1913. To supplement the family income and keep the operation going, Frank also worked at the rock quarry in Guernsey. Times were difficult in the beginning, but despite significant challenges for the first-generation rancher, born in 1890, Frank persevered and was able to pass the operation down to his son, Glen, and daughter-in-law, Sandra.
Like his father before him, Glen continued to claw, tooth-and-nail, to ensure Stellpflug Cattle Company stayed afloat, which meant working a labor-intensive job in town. Glen was told on several occasions that he would never make it as a rancher, to which he would respond, “we’ll see about that.”
Through every challenge thrown his way, Glen’s business acumen – along with a wife who kept him grounded – helped him navigate times where the markets turned or they had bouts of tough luck so that, today, Stellpflug Cattle Company could transition to the hands of Glen’s son, Andy.
Andy has harnessed the lessons his father taught him about business into operating one of the most successful and fastest-growing Renewal by Andersons in the country, and now, he and his wife, Theresa, are channeling their efforts into putting Stellpflug Cattle Company on the map in the seedstock industry.
